In a threshold of overtaking iPhones in the mobile market, Samsung has introduced an online music streaming service ‘Music Hub’ for its latest smartphone Galaxy S3.
The service claims to boost the appeal of smartphone and presently avails 19 million songs catalogues with prices comparable to iTunes. Samsung's Music Hub Premium will allow users to upload music to the cloud and access it from PC and up to five mobile devices and stream songs for 9.99 Euros a month.
Samsung Electronics' Media Solution Center senior vice-president TJ Kang said, “It was the first time the company had created its own music service from scratch. Samsung is not known for our content services; we make good hardware products but we haven't done much in the content space but that's changing. We are doing it to create a better experience for our users. There are things we could do better if we have complete control over all of the service."
With the new music streaming service the company will also face competition from other services such as Spotify and Pandora Media. Earlier, the company had rebranded its existing music and video services on devices, competing with music store providers like Google and Amazon.
