Samsung owned a record-breaking 21.2 percent of the global mobile phone market in the fourth quarter of 2009 and have gained the largest share of the market owned by a Korean company.
The handset market across the world increased 10 percent from October to December and totalled sales of 3.24 million mobile phones, said marketing researcher,Strategy Analytics.
Samsung’s market share, in 2009, rose from 3.4 percent to 20.1 percent and became the largest firm to grow among the five major mobile phone manufacturers.
LG’s market share climbed only 1.8 percent over the same period in 2000 whilst Nokia slid 1.7 percent.
Strategy Analytics said:
“While Motorola and Ericsson were struggling to enhance their profitability, Samsung and LG posted record sales again.”
“Samsung also achieved a record yearly sales volume of 200 million units.”
